Email Flow

Use encrypted email to exchange Travel Rule data with a counterparty VASP when TRP or TRUST cannot be used. Choose the flow that matches your customer's role:

Incoming Transaction Email Flow

Use this flow when your customer receives funds from a counterparty VASP's customer. Open Incoming Transaction on the Transactions page and choose to request confirmation by email:

  1. Before your customer can receive funds from a counterparty VASP's customer, you must first fill out the Incoming Transaction form, where you must provide the beneficiary information as well as the originator information provided by your customer. Once you have submitted the form, 21 Travel Rule will send an email to your counterparty VASP asking for confirmation.

  2. Your counterparty VASP should confirm that the originator of the transaction is indeed one of their customers and send you an email stating this.

  3. You can then proceed to credit your beneficiary customer with the funds.

  4. 21 Travel Rule will archive the transaction for compliance purposes.

You can see the email flow for incoming transactions in the following image:

Outgoing Transaction Email Flow

Use this flow when your customer sends funds to a counterparty VASP's customer. Open Outgoing Transaction on the Transactions page and select the counterparty VASP to use encrypted email. You can share the Travel Rule data after executing the transaction, or ask the counterparty to confirm the beneficiary details before you execute it.

Without Confirmation

To share Travel Rule data for an executed transaction:

  1. Collect the counterparty customer's information from your customer.

  2. Execute the transaction on the blockchain.

  3. Complete and submit the Outgoing Transaction form, including the transaction ID. 21 Travel Rule sends the Travel Rule data to the counterparty VASP by encrypted email.

With Confirmation

To request confirmation before executing the transaction:

  1. Collect the beneficiary's information from your customer. Complete and submit the Outgoing Transaction form, selecting the option to request confirmation before execution. 21 Travel Rule sends the Travel Rule data to the counterparty VASP by encrypted email and asks for confirmation.

  2. The counterparty will then check if the beneficiary is indeed one of their customers. If they are, they will send you an email with the confirmation.

  3. You can then proceed to execute the transaction on the blockchain.

  4. 21 Travel Rule will archive the transaction.
